मस्ती की पाठशा...लॉ
A debut novel, a hostelgic thriller (as it
claims) at that, crafted to hold the reader glued to, with the book. That’s Masti Ki Paathsha...law’, by Satya Vyas. This novel is about the hostellers
of a renowned university, The Banaras Hindu University, BHU – the author makes
it very clear. The protagonist Anurag Dey
loves fun and has its own crictionary:
‘Ladki
dekhi nahi bey.. glancey maar leti’
‘Lecture
hai ki garner ka bouncer hai’
The novel deals with the life
of three fun loving souls, Anurag alias
Dada, Suraj and Jaivardhan. But the story revolves around its main character
i.e. the “Bhagwan Das Hostel” which
highlights the anecdote that everyone is B.D.Jeevi
(the higher form of ‘Buddhijeevi’ or
Intellectual) in B.D Hostel.
For Dada, Suraj and Jai, life is all about masti, maja and mazak. They
are innocent happy-go-lucky guys until life plays a game with them and they
find themselves as accused of bomb blast. But reality struck when they came to know
that they could have been implicated in the bomb blast case.
A journey which started with
fun, friends, films went through love, life, Lanka, ends with a
Bomb Blast
The hostel life is best described in the author’s
own words: ‘faculty ka gozar ( a small
creeper) hostel pahunchate pahunchate
azgar ho jata hai’ (a whisper in the
faculty becomes the hottest Gossip by the time it reaches the hostel).
The best part of the book is the thrill weaved
with humour in each chapter of the book. The reader could not imagine that in the
penultimate part of the novel Pandora’s box
would open for the protagonist and his friends.
The plot is intriguing, filled with thrill and suspense,
until the author unfolds the suspense. Humour is rustic. For those who are familiar
with BHU, will agree with me that it is a perfect visualization of the life at
BHU, 10 on 10. I congratulate him for his debut novel and also thank him for
letting the readers relive their golden years of their student life.
